Keith Richards in smoking ban probe Sunday August 27, 01:26 PM Council bosses have confirmed they are to launch a probe into whether Rolling Stone Keith Richards broke Scotland's smoking ban. Glasgow City Council has received a report that the legendary rock band's guitarist lit up on stage at Hampden Park. It came after the veteran rockers played a concert there on Friday night, as part of their Bigger Bang European tour. A spokesman for the local authority said: "This has been brought to our attention and we will be looking into it. "Glasgow City Council takes it responsibility for enforcing the smoking ban very seriously." The law, which came into force in March, bans people from smoking in enclosed public places. Its aim is to reduce the health damage caused by second hand tobacco smoke. Environmental officers are responsible for enforcing the ban and carrying out inspections. Under the new legislation, anyone smoking in any enclosed space, including theatres, sports venues and bus shelters, faces a £50 fine. The manager of any premises who allows others to smoke there can be fined £200. The investigation by Glasgow City Council comes less than a month after actor Mel Smith was prevented from lighting a cigar as part of a theatre show.
